OLD STYLE WINE HARVEST FESTIVAL(POBOLEDA)Priorat Old Fashioned Wine Harvest Festival

Every year, the small village of Poboleda in the heart of the Priorat, celebrates its one day wine harvest festival. It usually takes place on the weekend nearest to the 15th September.

This year, 2014, the date has been confirmed for Saturday, 13th September.
The day starts early at around 7.30am when villagers and visitors go out to the vineyards to harvest grapes using old fashioned methods in local dress. From 10am onwards the historic Poboleda Wine Harvest Festivalhouses of the village open up their basements to the Priorat wineries where they offer a tasting of their best wines. Not to be missed. The day continues with a popular paella and more wine....

Poboleda Wine Harvest Festival Programme for the day

7am. Church bells ring to annouce the beginning of the festival
7.30am Visitors and villagers meet on main road
7.30am to 9am Traditional wine harvest in traditional dress
9am Popular breakfast in the Closa community hall
10am Traditional grape treading/crushing in front of cooperative building
From 10am onwards:-
Official opening of 11th Harvest Festival in Poboleda
Wine-tastings offered from the stately houses of the Carrer Major (Main Street) - tickets available on the day
Decorated streets
Craft fair of local artists
LUNCH organised by restaurants of the village in the Closa communty centre. (tickets available on the day)
6.30pm "Human Castles" offered by the "Xiquets de Valls"
6.30pm Concert in the church
9.30pm Balkan music concert in the Poboleda Swimming Pool
11pm "Correfoc" traditional Catalan "Running with Fire" spectacle through the streets.
12pm Dance with live music (Samana orchestra)
